He says there's been a steady decline in fresh cases in recent weeks.

KwaZulu-Natal hasn't registered more than 500 infections since 26th of last month - over 114 000 cases have been confirmed in the province, to date.

Hospital admissions have also dropped to below one thousand in both private and public facilities.

With the second-highest lab testing numbers in the country, KZN's positivity rate has dropped to below 10% daily.

"Over the past two weeks, the province has recorded 5 664 COVID-19 cases and 358 deaths. The average number of cases in the past seven days is 371.

South Africa's dropped to 7th place on a list of global infections.

But Zikala says we shouldn't get too comfortable.

"We've seen the threat of the second wave as reported in other countries such as China, Italy, Spain and the United States of America. Our message is still very clear.

"Adhering to lockdown regulations, especially Level 2 is crucial to curbing the spread of COVID-19."
