COVID-19 hits Durban nursing home

A case of COVID-19 has sparked fears among residents and families of those living at a Durban-based nursing home.

The Association for the Aged, which houses over two thousand elderly people, recorded its first coronavirus case within the facility this week.
Chief executive Femada Shamam says deep cleaning is underway.
"We've had 30 people who have come forward and who have indicated that they did have some contact with both resident and her husband.
"We will be undertaking screening internally. The Department of Health is scheduled to be on site. We have a few rooms that we have allocated has isolation rooms."
