COVID-19 hit 968 schools across SA: Motshekga
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says school COVID-19 cases are a direct reflection of their communities.
Motshekga on Sunday was speaking in a virtual media briefing in Pretoria, on the state of readiness for the phasing-in of other Grades.
She says they continue to observe a rise in COVID-19 infections due to a number of factors like non-compliance.
"Since our Grade 7 and 12 learners returned to school on 8 June, 968 of 25 762 schools were closed and reopened. Which means 4% of our schools really had to close and open, which means that more than 25 000 of the schools were not affected at all.

"Majority of the schools remained very stable. Indeed we will say they lost three to four days in a week, which means they would have enjoyed four weeks of teaching," says Motshekga.
She says since the return of Grade 7 and 12 learners 2 740 teachers from 440 000 countrywide have been tested positive for COVID-19.
