Cape Town man arrested for fake Covid19 test kits claims

Cape Town man arrested for falsely claiming that COVID-19 test kits in South Africa were contaminated with the virus has appeared in court.

A video that Stephen Birch created with his fake claims was widely shared on social media over the past couple of days.
According to police - the 55-year-old was taken into custody yesterday by officers from Parow.

He's been charged for creating and spreading fake news in terms of the regulations of Disaster Management Act.
Birch appeared in the local court earlier today - where he was released on a warning.
Under the new regulations announced last month - it is a criminal offence to create and spread fake news.
