For a pre-workout energy boost, go bananas. Washing them down with water before your workout has been proven to match most energy drinks. Just remember to keep hydrated during your workout as well.

Soda could save your hair after a dip in the pool or sea. If your hair is brittle after swimming, drench it in 500mls of soda water and shampoo as normal. You’ll remove build-ups from the water and bring back the shine to your locks.

Your favourite foods could be causing you to overeat. Levels of certain chemicals rise when people eat their ultimate treats. These can send signals to the brain that the body is being rewarded, overriding signals that you’ve had enough. Plan your portions beforehand to keep yourself in check.

Tap the brakes on your strength exercises. Slowing down a move forces your muscles to contract longer, working them harder. Aim for three seconds each on the ascent and descent.

Keep medication and beauty products out the bathroom. This may be a popular spot, but it’s the worst one you can choose. Bathrooms are usually warm and humid – the perfect breeding grounds for bacteria. Keep your items out of heat or direct sunlight, and opt for a cool, dark place instead.
