It’s that time of year when the country's best design talent and fashion forward thinkers descend on the city of gold.

Johannesburg hosts this year’s South African Fashion Week at the exclusive Crowne Plaza Hotel, and the 031 shall be representing.

The country's top designers will be showcasing their interpretations and creations for what they believe will be hot for summer 2013.

As the rest of us begin to snuggle up in our winter warmers, fashionistas will brave the cold to be a part of the trend action.

Established Durban designer Amanda Laird Cherry sets the tone with her show featured on opening night at 9pm.

Durban’s favourite design daughter Colleen Eitzen kicks off Friday night with her show at 6pm. This will be followed by the KZN Fashion Council/EThekwini Municipality project, which is no doubt the most anticipated show on my SA Fashion week calendar.

A venture funded by the municipality, this project allows young Durban designers to show their work on a grand scale at SA Fashion week.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek into the flurry of fashion chaos as the designers presented their final collections to the KZN Fashion Council last week.

While I can’t give too much away just yet, take my word for it, names like Jacqui Munsami, Sandile Mlambo and Nicole Hoyer will soon be household names.

Besides that exciting show, style searchers can also look forward to other young aspiring Durban designers Bianca Warren and Joel Janse Van Vuuren on Saturday evening.

I am positively brimming with excitement, as this is the first SA Fashion week with such a strong Durban contingent.
