BB creams are becoming more and more popular every day, and almost every brand has released one or two in the past year or so. But do you know what a BB Cream is, and should you use one?

A BB cream is a blemish balm or beauty balm. It is a facial cosmetic product that is a blend of moisturizer, foundation and sometimes sunblock.  It is something like a tinted moisturizer.

I wear make-up almost every day, so when I started to see BB creams everywhere, I was curious to try them out.

The thing about wearing make-up every day is that your skin doesn’t get to breathe, especially if your make-up routine includes foundation. And while not all foundations are full coverage, it is still good to give your skin a breather every now and then.

Here are a few key things you need to take into consideration when deciding whether to use BB Cream or foundation.

Coverage
It is very important to know what kind of coverage you are getting when you decide to purchase a make-up base. If your skin has spots, scars and other skin flaws, you will want to opt for a foundation as it offers medium to heavy coverage that will conceal these prominent skin flaws. However, if you have fairly clear skin, but perhaps it is uneven – a BB Cream will work perfectly for you.

Colour Range
While foundations come in a wide range of shades and you can choose the colour of your choice, BB Cream is often only available in a Light, Medium and Dark.  So if you are looking for a base that perfectly matches your skin, then go for a foundation - and don’t forget to get a professional to help you pick the shade! There is nothing worse than a woman wearing foundation that is 10 shades darker or lighter than her skin.

Have you got oily skin?
I do find BB Creams to be a bit oily, however if you use a powder to set your face then you will be OK. Foundation is generally going to be matte, however if you know you have a problem with oiliness then you should use powder anyway.

Personally, for everyday use I use the Garnier BB Cream in light. I love that my skin breathes and doesn’t feel clogged like foundation. However, when I go out or know I am going to have a longer day than usual, then I use foundation.
