Want to lead a healthier and more fulfilled life? Here’s KZN wellness and fitness expert, Lisa Raleigh, with her top five tips for the week…

- A hungry brain is an unhappy brain. Eating every four to five hours isn’t only important for stabilising your sugar, but will improve your performance and your mood as well.

- Plastic grocery bags don’t have to be disposable. Store them after every shop, and return them to your local supermarket each week or month – where they will be recycled.

- Your hair has a healthy appetite too. A diet rich in omega 3’s will lengthen your locks, while high protein foods will fight split ends. Salmon, walnuts, fish, eggs and beans are all diet must-haves.

- If make-up is a must-have, switch to mineral products. Because these are enriched with naturally occurring nutrients, make-up is free of parabens, artificial products and fragrances. Be sure to avoid mineral oils though, especially if you’re prone to breakouts or have oily skin.

- Honey could me more effective than over-the-counter cough syrup. If you want to quell a night-time cough, try a medicinal-grade variety such as manuka honey and take up to 4 teaspoons before bed.
