Most stylists will tell you that on average every woman only uses 20 percent of her wardrobe, 80 percent of the time. Sound familiar Mrs. Denim and Tee? It’s time to change your wardrobe strategy and manage your closet with control.

1. Stock Control.
The problem is, most of us hate this very important step and skip it entirely or never ever get round to doing it. It’s paramount to saving you money so if nothing else drives you to do it hopefully the mountains of money you’ll save will. Go shelf-by-shelf and sort into three piles: Keep These, Keep These Away From Me and Keep In Case. Donate the ‘Keep These Away From Me’ pile to an orphanage or charity near you and dump the ‘Keep In Case’ pile into a suitcase. Call up a few friends and encourage them to do the same in their wardrobes then plan a girls' night, where entry fee is your suitcase of ‘Keep In Case’ clothing. Open them out and trade away. Swapping is the new shopping!

2. Merchandise.
Now that you know what you’re keeping, it’s important to store your treasure chest of threads appropriately. Essentially you need to merchandise your shelves. Pack all your tees together, fold all your shorts together, have a place especially for socks and another place just for brassieres. Have fun with it, if you get stressed about space use old hat boxes or baskets. Keep your heels together and your sneakers together. I insist on hanging as much as you can. Don’t be afraid of buying an extra rail for storage, most come with wheels so you can move it around with ease, plus it can also become a feature in your room. Things are much easier to find when you can see them. I color code too so blacks are hung together, then I flow into navy, then brown then floral. I like to feel like I’m shopping for something to wear each day and you should too. Get some wardrobe revamp ideas here

3. Make a Look Book
Every time you wear something and feel incredible in it, take a shot of yourself. Your Look Book will serve two purposes: 1) it will remind you what top goes well with which pants and 2) It will kick you into gear when you get into the habit of only wearing 20 percent of your wardrobe.

4. Accessorize
Everyone underestimates the power of accessories. It’s amazing what a pair of sunnies or a bunch of bangles can do to an outfit. Make sure you give your jewellery a time to shine. Sort through it like you have sorted through your wardrobe. Hang beads over your mirrors so that you see them. Play with colour and don’t be afraid to spend a bit of money on your accessory collection. It’s the easiest and quickest way to update a tired look. P.S. Sass Diva has some really awesome accessory stands for about R150.00 to help you organized ;)
