The Essenwood Craft Market is another local gem us Durban folk get to experience every Saturday.

Already a popular spot for people of all ages, the market is continuing to grow with the help of a growing curiosity about all things authentic, crafty and vintage.

If you’ve never been to the Eassenwood Craft Market, you should give it a try. It is a blend of fashion, food, art, décor and vintage goods. Situated in Berea Park, the trees offer a canopy of shade that keeps you cool on sunny days.

While there are well over 100 stalls at the market, my favourites are the vintage stalls. I am an absolute sucker for beautifully maintained vintage clothes, accessories and bags.

You may also enjoy having a look at the more modern fashion stalls as well. I’ve even seen a stall that caters for your little one’s Barbie dolls, so no one in the family will be feeling left out.

Another stall you may enjoy is the flower stall. But I might add, these are not just any roses. They are specially treated roses that come in all colours, including black! These roses can last up to six months if taken care of properly. Amazing right?!

When it comes to food, you aren’t just limited to buying something from one of the many stalls; you can pack a picnic basket for your family and enjoy the day in the park. There are also the swings, slides and merry-go-rounds to keep the kids occupied so it’s beyond perfect for families.

The market is open from 9am to 2pm every Saturday, although I would not suggest attending on the first Saturday of the month as that is the same day as the I Heart Market, which usually means fewer people attend and there are fewer stalls too.
