Threads @ THE FACTORY CAFÉ

R30 will get you into the super suave Factory Café this Friday night to be a part of one of Durban’s coolest art exhibitions, Threads. Forget canvas, this exhibit is all about art on all kinds of apparel, from flat peak caps to sneakers. It’s a great way to support local artists without getting too artsy…if you know what I mean. For more info check out the event on Facebook.

If it’s ‘that time of the month’ and you wouldn’t mind two free tickets, mail me at [email protected] with the subject line 'Threads tickets' to win!

Origin V.I.P Birthday Bash

If the thought of a little jog at sunrise on a Sunday morning makes you want to barf, then perhaps you need to get involved with Origin’s birthday bash. ‘Orrie’ will be celebrating her fourth funtabulous year of frivolous folly and fumbled fornication :D from about 8:30pm. You’ll be sure to rock the night away with Durban’s finest party pack. If you aren’t on “Orrie’s” VIP membership list then you might be stuck in a queue but I’m sure she’ll figure out a way to squeeze you in.

The 17th Poetry Africa – International Poetry Festival

According to the PR guys "this festival is a critical platform for self-expression that offers a space for cultural exchange in the city of Durban". R40 gets you in, R25 for students. The full programme and participant bio’s are available here. There’s a bunch of free activities and open mic sessions at the BAT centre and at the Sneddon Theatre. The festival finale on Saturday night at the BAT centre will include a performance by celebrated Canadian hip hop and spoken word artist Ian Kamau. Follow the event on Twitter @PoetryAfrica for all the updates.
