FRIDAY 10 OCTOBER

Desmond and The Tutus and Taxi Violence @ LIVE
It’s going to be a BIG night at LIVE this Friday night with Desmond and the Tutus and Taxi Violence doing what they do for us Durban folk. Both are incredible to watch live so definitely don’t miss this one.

Tickets are R80 at the door, plus we have two sets of double tickets to give away. SLAM SOLO – an evening with Ewok @ Rivertown Beerhall
What you end up doing with your Friday evening is going to be a tough call, because just down the road from the LIVE gig is SLAM SOLO - an evening with Ewok - which is happening at the Rivertown Beerhall. Ewok will be tying together 10 years of professional performance poetry into an hour of live entertainment and spoken word. Expect old classics and fresh material. SLAM SOLO marks the launch of the Rivertown Heritage Festival Series. It kicks off at 6pm, and R40 gets you in.

SATURDAY 11 OCTOBER 

Taco Yacht Party
The team that brought you the Taco Train Party team up again to bring you something special this October. The Taco crew set sail from the Durban Harbour with an illustrious view on an 85-foot luxury catamaran - 'La Vue'. 'La Vue' features two amazing decks, two full bars and a dance floor! Begin your journey topside and stroll the outdoor deck under the stars, taking in all the sights of the Durban skyline while sipping on a sundowner. Tickets are limited so head straight to their Facebook page to get on board. 

Downunder @ The Pavilion Shopping Centre
This also sounds like a massive must-do. Uberjakd and Krunk from Australia will be hitting our shores for the first time and shall add some serious heat to the decks. The event starts at 3pm and ends at 3am so get you game face on. Besides the Ozzie contingent there is a massive line-up of some of South Africa’s best DJs.  Pre-sale tickets are R120 and VIP tickets are R180. Book at Computicket here. Sibling Rivalry @ The Winston
On Saturday The Winston plays host to the legendary Matt Wilson's 30th Birthday Party slash farewell as he leaves us for US soil. Besides being the other half of the Accidentals, Matt kicked off his musical career with Sibling Rivalry, who co-incidentally celebrate their 15 years. So, our Matty says farewell in style and will be sharing the stage with some of his favourite Dj’s and bands. Here’s the lineup: 

8:30pm - 10pm - DJ Donnylong (new school reggae and dub)
10pm - The Sisters (dirty rock 'n roll)
11pm - Sibling Rivalry (ska/punk/reggae/hardcore/rock)
Midnight till 1:30am - DJ Fuego Heat (80's cheese)
1:30am till 3am - Ballie Mike (vintage ska/reggae and rock 'n roll)

Rocktober @ Wanderers Club, PMB
The Rocktober Music Festival is on at Wanderes Club in Pietermaritzburg from 9 am till 9 pm. Entry is R30 per person and all the funds go to the SPCA. Musicians on the bill include: Byron Love, Kelta, Brett Cox, Di Veness, Sandi Bigara, Steve Fataar and Summer du Preez. There will be a fleamarket, food and drink stalls plus fun walks with the adopted dogs for kids.

SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER

Urban Picnic @ Rivertown Beerhall
The idea is to buy all your picnic goodies at The Morning Trade, or buy one already made up for you and then head down to The Rivertown Beerhall for a Sunday urban city picnic with a live local band, beers and vibes from 1pm. For more details or directions head to their Facebook page. 

MONDAY 13 OCTOBER

Poetry Africa 
The 18th installment of Poetry Africa runs from 13 - 18 October and brings together some of the continent’s most dynamic poets and musicians. The programme features performances, readings, and book-launches every evening at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at UKZN's Howard College campus in Durban. The day programme includes seminars, workshops, poetry competitions, open mic opportunities, campus invasions and schools visits. The festival finale and the Durban Slam Jam take place at the The Rivertown Beer Hall on Saturday 18 October.  Get the full programme here

TUESDAY 14 OCTOBER

Brett Newski & Hezron Chetty @ The Red Door, PMB 
Brett Newski is headlining at the Maritzburg Musician club with an opening act by Hezron Chetty and Cornel Meyer. Newski's style is similar to bands like Violent Femmes, Frank Turner, Jake Bugg, and Billy Bragg. Hezron Chetty and Cornel Meyer play richly textured Indie Folk music with orchestral flourishes. The music starts at 8pm, and R40 gets you in.
