What's on in Durban this weekend

OMG, it’s going to be a busy weekend on the East Coast. Comedy, markets, fundraisers, art, fashion, live music and sports: the 031 shall deliver this weekend! Let's get festive.

FRIDAY 12 DECEMBER

The Ranga @ The Playhouse Theatre
This wacky comedy is in its final week and if you haven’t yet seen it, ease yourself into the weekend by joining award-winning comic Aaron McIIroy in his one-man musical comedy, The Ranga.

In this tongue-in-cheek performance McIIroy explores the phenomenon of prejudice - which most South Africans are familiar with - but this time it’s all got to do with his hair pigmentation.

It’s a must see for all gingers and gingers lovers alike. Tickets are R180 and you can book through Computicket

AJ Venter Doggie Day @ Ballito SPCA
Every December the SPCA and other animal shelters run out of food as the humans leave on holiday and some animals are left without food at home… and therefore the shelters become full very quickly and run out of food. Food is paramount as they go through 150 kgs per day! Any Supermarket brand will be greatly appreciated; pellets, chunks and soft food in tins or sachets are also welcome. Doggy lover .AJ Venter will be at the Durban SPCA from 12- 2pm and at the Ballito SPCA FROM 4-6PM to help take collections for our furry friends. Seeing as though Christmas is the time for giving why not get involved and donate to ‘man’s best friend’. For all the deets. Go to the Facebook Event Page here

Ghetto Jam @ The North Beach Skatepark
It's that time of year again where things get wild at The Ghetto Jam #9 at the North Beach Skatepark. But it’s all about BMX, not skateboarders. The event starts on Friday 12th and runs through till Sunday with the prize giving and after party at the Winston Pub. It’s R20 to enter and free for the public to watch. So head down to the beach for something a little wilder than a stroll along the promenade. For all deets, click here.

Twins on Deck @ The Keys Florida Road
As we dip deeper into December The Keys on Florida Road is set to officially start off your weekend with a bang.  Ryan Warren Thomas, DJ Sam and, of course, the Twins.

Red Eye Durban @ Emoyeni House
#RedEyeDurban is a multi-media art soaked night at a fresh new venue in Glenwood at Emoyeni House, 25 Haraldene Road. There will be six art-and-music rooms and two large balconies with beautiful views of Durban's harbour. Emoyeni House is an old 1900’s Cubanesque, slash Victorian style villa. It's one night of fashion, music and art!! Tickets are available at the door. They’re R100 and R50 for students. You don’t want to miss this! Click here for directions.

Rowan Stuart December Tour
Another one of our beloved Durban musos is back in town and starts his city tour this Friday night. He’ll be hitting venues across KZN and make sure you get to him. Besides being an incredible musician he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. On Friday night he’ll be at the Umhlanga Up market, Sunday he’s at Buds on the Bay and then he heads a little further north to Eshowe, Umzumbe and Salt Rock. For his full line-up click here
