What's on in Durban this weekend

As the festive season winds down and those badly sunburnt peeps with GP number plates do the great trek home, the east coast always promises something exciting. (Including comedy tickets. Win them here!)

The weather is looking great so it’s time to take back our favourite city.

FRIDAY 10 JAN

Corner Cafe Comedy
Get some comic relief at The Corner Café this Friday night. Local stand up comedians will be dishing out some of life’s best medicine from 6:30. Tickets are R120, definitely call to book a table (031-2010219) and, as per usual, charismatic owner Judd Campbell will be serving us his legendary bottomless pizza. He has also kindly thrown in two double tickets to the evening. Mail me at [email protected] to win a ticket for you and partner. Now it’s a party!

Steve Fataar live
Steve Fataar will be at Zack’s in Windermere Road from 7:30ish so if you feeling like some live music head down to catch this South African legend. There’s no cover charge but it’s always good to book a table beforehand. He’ll also be playing at the Blue Waters Hotel on Saturday night if you can’t make it on Friday. He’ll be there from 6-8pm; the hotel’s new outdoor area is just gorgeous so if the sound of al fresco dining with a bit of Steve Fataar rocks your boat, you’ll want to set a reminder.

LOCALS ONLY TRIPLE FEATURE BOOGIE!
There's a rad gig at LIVE The Venue, also on Friday. Catch Nick Pitman's new band Mickey Burns, as well as The Seagreen Blues Band and Die Wolwedans. R30 per person. Doors open at 8pm.

Catch girl/guy band INCEPTIO, from Jo'burg, at Ollies Pub & Grill in Toti - it's free entry and starts at 7pm.

SATURDAY 11 JAN

Meet the Sharks
The official Curry Cup champions, The Cell C Sharks, will be ready to give their loyal fans a massive high five in La Lucia Mall from 10am-12pm. If you’re a fan, march down for classic Instagram moment with your favourite player.

DJ Ian Skene
Durban DJ Ian Skene has returned to the 031 for a massive night with Coco Loco at Absolute in Florida Road. Doors open at 8 and entrance is free till 10pm. Otherwise it’s R30.

Look forward to…

LIVE the Venue promises another year of toe tapping live music acts. Next weekend pencil in Pretoria band December Streets. Supporting acts Cat Like Thieves and Shout OUT will be just as fun to watch. So clear your schedule for next Saturday night.
