Pearl Thusi has come a long way since presenting kids' game show, iCrew, as a teenager.

The 25-year-old has become a household name in the entertainment industry and has just made her debut on one of South Africa's most popular soapies, Isidingo.

Her character, Palesa Motaung, graced our screens for the first time this week. Palesa is a young, attractive and assertive lawyer with a dark secret and a desire for revenge.

Pearl says she has a lot in common with Palesa.

"I think she is going to be a huge inspiration for some girls because she is so strong and a serious go-getter. She's a beautiful woman; it's just that she is troubled. I hope people enjoy her and love her because she is someone to be reckoned with," she says.

Pearl says she was drawn to Palesa as it's a character she has always wanted to take on.

"I haven't played a dark character in a long time, if ever, so this is quite an exciting challenge for me and I love challenges. Just reading about her inspired me as a young woman" she says.

TV audiences will recognises Pearl from entertainment and celebrity gossip show, Real Goboza, as well as music show, Live Amp. She has also had acting roles on popular TV shows such as Zone 14 and Family Bonds. Pearl seems to be everywhere right now but she says doesn't consider herself an "It Girl".

"I don't like the "It Girl" thing because it's like after that then what? Are you getting replaced; is there a new girl? So I don't let it get to my head. However at this point in my career I'm having a really good time. I am feeling a bit spent and all over the place, however, the careers we have here have a short span and you've got to give it all you've got when you can," she says.

The Durban born actress and TV presenter is known for her quirky but elegant style. She shares some of her style tips with us.

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is eclectic and spontaneous; it just depends on my mood.

What's the one thing you won't leave home without?
My cell phone is something I have with me always, and my iPad.

Bags or shoes?
It would depend on which one looks nicer though I would choose bags because bags can last a long time.

Do you buy designer labels?
I do buy designer labels if I like what I see but I'm not just all about the labels.

Who is your favourite local designer?
That's really hard, I can't choose one but among them are David Tlale and Thula Sindi

What makes a successful woman?
A woman who really knows who she is; knows who she wants and where her life is going but will allow the twists and turns to take her with - wherever destiny or God wants to take her.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself as Meryl Streep, working with her, winning Oscars and really just being happy; living on a farm with horses and chickens - living a simple life but living big dreams.
