Our very own Deon Govender is a new host on Petrolheads, a show on Dstv's Ignition TV. Petrolheads features KZN car enthusiasts. We caught up with him…to talk cars!
Where does your love for cars come from?
Well, I think it's in every guy’s DNA. Probably after driving my first car when I was like 15.
Tell us about your first car.
The first car I had was a problematic car. I bought a Golf1 - which looked great, but had a lot of issues. Everything went wrong, but after fixing everything I realized how important it is to buy a car with a maintenance plan or warranty.
Any tips for first-time car buyers?
You need to buy a car that suits you and who you are. Fast doesn't always mean good; good could come in many ways like fuel economy, safety and quality.

What are you driving now?
I'm driving a sponsored VW Scirocco and parked away in my garage is my show car which is a Subaru Impreza. This car that could make a surprise appearance on the TV show, but you’ll have to wait to find out more...

Tell us a bit about your role on Petrolheads
Well, it's a difficult one as I have to source cars from KZN and there is a process to how they are chosen. Each car and owner has to have an ‘X-factor’. After we choose them, we film them at a location in KZN, also showcasing the best the province has to offer.
