Hot in the City this weekend
Updated | By Staff Writer
Our pick of where to be and what to do this weekend - from markets to a health and wellness expo to some great indie rock, even if the weather is miserable there's plenty to keep you busy.
Word on the street is that we need to haul out our leather jackets and boots again because its going to be chilly. Never fear - between night markets, indie retro bands and a Good Health and Wellness Expo, you won’t even notice the beasterly easterly outside.
Litchi Orchid – Salt Rock
If you haven’t been to a market at the Litchi Orchid then you should definitely try to pencil this one in. They have a great variety of stallholders from vintage clothes to fresh produce. Besides the subtle hubbub of general market chatter there is a line-up of four bands to add to the ambiance. Trust me, the bands are never, ever anything hectic. Just awesome melodic, acoustic loveliness. It’s a family friendly venue and the gates open at 5pm. It’s R20 per person; kids are free. For more info check out their website.
Market At The Square
If Salt Rock is a little too far for you then head to the night market at The Square in Umhlanga. It’s a bit less family friendly but also has some great food and beverage stalls, with the added bonus of a delightful urban setting. The Market kicks off at 6pm. Find them on Facebook.
The Good Health and Wellness Expo
These sort of events are always good to pop into, the best part is you can look after your health and shop at the same time. The Good Health and Wellness Expo is being held at Westwood Mall on Saturday. It’s R25 per person and there will be health practitioners, lifestyle coaches, image consultants and fitness instructors on exhibition with eye testing and blood check-ups also available.
The Plastics and Shortstraw @ LIVE
The Plastics are an incredible indie retro rock band from Cape Town. They’ve been around since 2009 and have had plenty of radio airtime and have bagged a few MK awards. They’ve played at Rocking The Daisies and opened for UK indie retro rock band Two Door Cinema Club. This year the band is focusing on touring around our beautiful nation and us lucky Durban folk can catch them @ LIVE tonight.
Shortstraw will be opening for The Plastics, which shall set the mood for a great night of Indie sauve hipster heaven. Entrance is R80, doors open at 8 and no under 18’s are allowed entry.
