Generations is back!

Generations is back!

After much anticipation and plenty of drama, 'Generations' returned to South Africa's screens last night. Zaba gives her review of the not-entirely-all-new 'Generations - The Legacy'.

Two months ago, South Africa's number one soapie Generations was taken off air due to 16 of its cast members being on strike over pay and working conditions.

This subsequently lead to them being fired by the show's executive producer, Mfundi Vundla.

Last night marked the return of the show, now named Generations -The Legacy.

The show started off "two years later" at the unveiling ceremony of Karabo's dad's (whose name I now forget).

And yes, Karabo and Tau are back.

I won't lie, I was extremely confused as the show moved between the unveiling scene and a scene where a new (I assume main) character has been introduced who goes by the name Mazwi...a "successful" spaza shop owner (even though the spaza shop looked like it was indoors). Then there was the scene where Manaka Ranaka's character is in prison, beating up someone and the warden cheerfully comes and smiles at her telling her it's time for her realease. It was soooo confusing though.

The new show does boast a pretty impressive cast including the likes of Connie "generations veteran" Ferguson, Rapulana Seiphemo, Latoya Mangezi and Manaka Ranaka.

The new show also brings back Jonathan and Angela, whose return also confused me because when last I checked they were Jonathan and Angela Motene (Khaya's kids) and now they return as Mogales (Tau's kid). (I think something in my memory bank of Generations is a little scrambled. Please help!)

The public (on Twitter, at least) seems unimpressed with the 'new' Generations, but I am going to give it time and let the story unfold.

But for the return of South Africa's biggest soapie after all the drama...this first episode was extremely weak in my opinion.
