Durban designers to hit the ramp tonight
Updated | By Staff Writer
SA Fashion Week got underway yesterday. Durban designers will tonight be showcasing their creations at the KZN Fashion Council’s ramp show.
The KZN Fashion Council has selected eight young Durban designers to showcase their creations at the KZNFC Ramp tonight at 7pm.
“KZN designers have some of the greatest potential and creative talent in the country. They just need the support of our local consumers – it’s time to wear Proudly KZN brands,” says Programme Manager of the KZN Fashion Council, Shavera Sayed.
The designers selected for the ramp are Haroun Hansrot, Kujula Mtambo, Nishai Sookdhew and Jacqueline Munsami. Vijay Shah, a jewellery designer, has been paired with the designers to produce customised jewellery to accessorise their ranges.
The buyers’ lounge designers chosen are Nicole Hoyer, Sandile Mlambo and Nkosivumile Mhlungo.

Haroun Hansrot says SA Fashion Week is a great platform for local designers to showcase their designs.
“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to expose my brand [and] meet buyers who especially come along to the event to buy designer clothes at the buyers’ lounge, a unique feature that no other fashion show has,” said Hansrot.
Hansrot has created his own fabric called ombre-dyes, which he has infused his final pieces with. With the theme of "50 Shades of Lilac-Love at First Sight" he is confident the soft, feminine range will be a hit.
“With the mentorship, training and development programmes that the KZNFC is offering, local designers will soon be seen on an international platform like New York Fashion Week, where David Tlale showcased his designs,” added Sayed.
Designers who would like to sign up for free membership to the non-profit KZNFC can still do so until June 2014. For more information, call 031 825 8569 or go to www.kznfc.co.za
