A Westville woman escaped a home invasion unscathed after two armed robbers held her up in her Strathay Road home at lunchtime on Friday.

Blue Security says the suspects had placed a concrete palisade against the fence and jumped into the property. They held up the resident at gunpoint and tied her up with cable ties, robbing her of two cellphones and jewellery before fleeing. Meanwhile, earlier on Friday a Mariannhill Park resident was hijacked outside her property in Holzner Road at around 7.23am. There were no injuries reported.

There's apparently been a rise in fishing (with an f) incidents at homes in the greater Durban area. Enforce says this is the theft of valuables inside the home through open windows. Valuables such as keys, bags, and cell phones that are routinely left on tables near windows, are "fished" out through the open window. It says one of the dangers of this is that offenders then have your car, house, and gate keys, which allows them to easily steal your vehicle, or even enter your house.
