With the holiday season around the corner, please be on guard for holiday letting accommodation scams.

We'd hate for you to book bogus accommodation, only to later discover your Christmas isn't going to be as merry as you'd hoped! So if you're looking for holiday season flats or houses to rent, here are a few things to be on the lookout for.

Often the bogus accommodation is advertised on an online classified site at a very low price, it's always available when you enquire and the photos of the supposed accommodation always entice you. So you email the contact person and in a growing number of cases start communicating with a con-artist who usually asks for a 50% deposit. Please have your wits about you and always try to verify that the holiday accommodation in question actually exists (a quick Google will usually yield results) and that you are actually dealing with the owner or proper agent. Often the places actually do exist  but someone is pretending to be authorized to let it, and the flat is permanently occupied and not available for holiday letting. These days you need to do your homework before parting with any money especially if it's a last minute booking for a place that looks too good to be true at the price being asked.

CPF meeting

Finally, the Woodhurst Sub-Forum is holding its next general meeting this coming Wednesday at 7pm at the Woodhurst Multi-Cultural Centre before the library. Guest speakers will include SAPS management. All residents of Woodhurst are invited to attend.
