Alert for Durban CBD motorists
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
Today, we have a complaint of men dressed as car guards involved in car break-ins on Durban's Esplanade and a warning of the annual tax season scam.

A concerned listener who works in a building on the Durban Esplanade says she's witnessed guys posing as car guards breaking into cars parked on Margaret Mncadi Avenue (Victoria Embankment). She's reported this to the police and also supplied them with photos of the suspects. Please be vigilant when parking in this area.
Tax season scam back
Now that Tax Season is upon us, the scams relating to SARS have resurfaced. If you receive an email from 'Internet Banking Channel' saying you have an eFiling confirmation, don't get too excited. If you read on it'll tell you SARS is giving you X amount back, but you need to click on a link to view details of the payment, and therein lies the scam. It's an identity theft scam. If you do have a refund from SARS, it will go straight into your account.SARS advises that they'd never ask for your banking or personal details in any communication that you receive via post, email, phone or SMS; and they'd never send you hyperlinks to other websites – even those of banks.
