Do you know how to perform CPR or do the Heimlich Maneuver?

A key question that we rarely give enough attention to is learning about the basic steps in self-care.

And this goes above and beyond treating yourself, but more towards actually saving your life or that of someone else.

Vic Naidoo got to thinking about this and thought about how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on yourself in an emergency situation and if this is even possible.

As much as it may seem like a silly question to some, it is something that needs to be asked - especially considering the fact that not everyone lives with family.

Many people live alone or find themselves in an emergency situation when they are on their own.

Sometimes those situations turn out badly, other times someone comes to the rescue. But in case there isn't a hero or heroine waiting around the corner to save us, we wanted to find out if we can in fact be our own heroes.

Which is why Vic Naidoo reached out to Emcare. An organisation that specialises in Health & Safety training and was founded in 1999.

And so he asked the painstaking question, what if one day you are alone and find yourself choking or in need of CPR, is this something you can perform on yourself?

We have seen many people instinctively perform the Heimlich Maneuver on people in public settings. But this is definitely something that everyone should know.

This is why Vic Naidoo invited some trained and accredited professionals into the studio. They helped demonstrate what to do and also answered some imperative questions.
