Swagger much?! Shanghai residents display luxury shopping bags on their doors
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Only the Chinese can make COVID-19 tests look desirable... Not!
Who would've thought some paper bags could be the ultimate signal of wealth and luxury...
If it's swag we are to talk about, let's be honest, the Chinese are quite natural in their love for luxury brands.
And although Shanghai may be under strict lockdown, many of its residents have still managed to show off their wealth.
"In recent weeks, it appears that paper shopping bags of luxury brands have become more coveted than the actual designer handbags themselves — and can be seen hanging outside apartment doors all across the city." (Business Insider)
Why?
These luxury brand shopping bags are being used by residents to house their COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits.
The bags are being left on door handles and collected by healthcare workers, in an effort to avoid too many hands being in contact.
"While residents could have used any old plastic bag to do the same, many have chosen to whip out their paper shopping bags from fashion houses such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes." (Business Insider)
Many people shared images on Chinese Twitter, Weibo, to share their mockery of this 'material girl' display of wealth...
If we have to admit anything, it would be that if you are going to find an innovative way of glamourising COVID-19 tests, this would be one definite way of doing it.

According to Business Insider, one person commented: "They're in their own materialistic world."
This supported the premise that residents to Shanghai, which is a wealthy city, live very different lives to the rest of the country.
