It's a rare occasion to find those in the driving seat when it comes to success share that they have flaws and weaknesses, too. Very often there is this invisible screen that exists between the people who have 'made it' (in the limelight) and those that are making it behind the scenes.

So when someone as iconic as Siya Kolisi, the first black Springboks captain, says that he's not perfect, we stop and listen.

“When I look in the mirror, I don't see a hero because I've got flaws and weaknesses. Instead, I see someone who wants to make sure everybody has equal opportunities. I see someone who believes in this country so much and is willing to show his vulnerabilities to others so they can realise that they can achieve anything they set their mind on,” Siya said in the Red Bull Connect series.

The Red Bull Connect series digitally brings together leading South African athletes, artists, and social entrepreneurs from a variety of backgrounds to discuss topics that are the core of social change in South Africa through online sessions hosted by media personalities that are key figures driving this discourse. Kolisi spoke about his upbringing and how it impacted his growth and his becoming the Springbok captain. He touches base on his biggest motivators and that family and community are two big driving factors in his life.

He was also featured on eNCA recently, where he was enjoying the Durban waves and spoke about how he is loving living on the East Coast. Big thumbs up for our province when we hear the stamp of approval from Mr Kolisi.
