"My sister got engaged right after me and has booked my dream venue..."

When you imagine sharing the happy news of your engagement with your family, you hope that it is accepted with some excitement and joy.

But every so often you get parents who don't provide the desired reactions to their children. In this case, it was a bride-to-be who announced her engagement to her long-time boyfriend.

Only to have her sister, who she describes as the favourite child, announce her engagement not long afterwards. And get this, her sister even went as far as booking her dream wedding venue for her own wedding...

The nerve!

She decided to take a stand against her family by going ahead and booking out her dream venue anyway. This, of course, has caused a division in the family.

"My sister and I don't get along. I can be honest and admit that she's much prettier than me, and that's something she's never let me forget. Both of my parents are pretty shallow, and they've always given her the best and put her first.” (News24)

That sounds really sad...

No child should have to feel that way, parents are meant to be equal bearers of love for their children.

However, she points out that she has a wonderful mother-in-law and gets so much love from her.

Now here comes the part of pettiness: "I know it sounds so annoying and cheesy, but I really cared about this location. It was sentimental to me, and I've talked about wanting to get married there as far back as high school when I was just daydreaming,” she says.

“When I brought it up, my parents told me to stop being so petty. In a fit of actual pettiness, I ended up booking the same venue a month before my sister's wedding. I checked with the venue, and there's no way my sister can move the wedding up (they're booked up), and if she changes venues, she'll lose her deposit.” (News24)

Sounds like a script for a rom-com where the protagonist gets shunned by the family for standing up for herself.

Nevertheless, you can always rely on Reddit users to share their truthful advice without holding back any punches.

Many of the comments shared her sentiment, saying that she had every right to have the venue of her dreams on her big day. And that her sister in fact was the one who was wrong.

We hope that whatever happens, the wedding day is a happy one...
