We are all about finding fashion inspiration from up and coming fresh blood, and to hear that one of our local girls is making a name for herself in the fashion world, we had to chat to her.

Bernadine Hanuman Singh, a former student of Kharwastan in Chatsworth, has made it to the Top Ten in the VDJ Young Designer Awards. The theme for this year, "Birds of a Feather", both symbolic and fashion trendy, was interpreted in both a funky and classic way by Bernadine.

Bernadine is from the Lindiwe Khuzwayo Academy and is studying fashion design part time as she pursues her full time career as a  Forensic Analyst. Talk about being a go-getter, Bernadine told the Rising Sun that it's always been a dream of hers to pursue fashion design.

This young mogul has also joined the sisterhood that is Boss Babes of South Africa and aims to share her passion for women empowerment and upliftment through this amazing sisterhood.

Her inspiration behind her design came from the Violet Backed Starling, which is found in small flocks in Sub-Saharan Africa. We love the richness in the colour and the symbolism behind her design inspiration. She also mentioned that the colour, which is purple, symbolises royalty and stands for luxury, wealth, and sophistication

We wish Bernadine all the best on her fashion journey and hope to see more of her work in the future. Maybe even a collaboration with our very own Vic Naidoo? Who knows...
