We know that holding a credit card can be an easy solution to your financial problems, but the truth is if you are unable to control yourself, it can be plastic evil.

For one man, a lawyer in Brazil, the credit card was all forms of evil as it encouraged him to come up with a crazy story.

"A Brazilian lawyer is currently under investigation after allegedly spending over 13,000 Brazilian reals ($2,700) at a shopping mall, and then claiming that someone had kidnapped him and used his credit card." (Oddity Central)

We assume that a big part of many people's debt problems comes with having an open line of credit.

The temptation of wanting to spend money that isn't actually yours can be overbearing. For Rodrigo Barcelos de Oliveira, a lawyer from Rio de Janeiro, we think he may have watched one or two many movies.

He visited the police station to report a serious crime. He said that two armed men approached him and forced him to pull over. They proceeded to take his credit card and as one guy shopped for five hours, the other held him at gunpoint.

From crime precedence, criminals usually take what they can and then flee. But according to Barcelos de Oliveira, they used the credit card till it reached its limit and left with his belongings and the purchased products.

The police did not take these allegations lightly and proceeded with an investigation.

The first thing they did was review CCTV mall footage, which is where the lawyer said the kidnappers took him.

"Only, to their surprise, they spotted Rodrigo Barcelos de Oliveira casually walking through the shopping mall with his cell phone in hand and making purchases with his credit card at 11 different shops, including a supermarket, a motorcycle accessories store, an optician, a shoe store and a designer clothing store." It seems that he was experiencing some buyer's remorse and didn't know how else to resolve the matter.

Spending roughly R47,000 can do that to a person.

"After reporting the kidnapping to the police, the Brazilian lawyer also tried cancelling all the purchases, claiming that his credit card had been stolen at gunpoint. However, the bank refused his request, because the correct PIN code had been used every single time." (Oddity Central)

The police searched his apartment and found all the merchandise purchased with the credit card. This led to the lawyer admitting that he had lied due to financial difficulties. He is now facing charges of embezzlement and fake reporting of a crime.
