Is it acceptable to visit your parents without calling first?

"Yes, they’re your folks. You should be able to visit when you want. The rules are different," says Vic Naidoo.

There are certain rules of etiquette when it comes to visiting people.

Some believe that it is okay to just show up unannounced, while others are very stringent in their beliefs that you should always call before visiting.

In saying that, we also have to consider that there are two (or more) types of hosts; those that are all for unannounced visitors and those that aren't.

A TikTok content creator who has earned quite a name for himself, Derek Lipp, recently posted a controversial video on his account.

Controversial in that it got us asking questions as to whether it is okay to visit your parents without announcing your visit beforehand...

In the video, we see him arrive at his mom's place without telling her that he was coming beforehand - and it didn't go down very well with mom.

Check out the video below, courtesy of TikTok.

Now, we are aware that this could've all been staged for content, but we must admit that we did enjoy the mom's spice.

Please note that this video does contain profanity and is not suitable for sensitive viewers.

Surprisingly, the comments section revealed quite a lot about the closeness that many kids have with their parents.

While there are some parents who value their alone time, there are those who also love having their kids over.

And rightfully so. If anything, the past few years have taught us the importance of visiting or even just checking in on our loved ones. Check out some of the comments.

Simphiwe Brilliant M: "I don't announce whenever I pop by my folks, but every time they see me, their eyes light up and they're happy to see me and it's kinda why I love it"

Kimikim Inurface: "Our eldest Son died at 30 .. We roll out the red carpet when our adult children want to hang out with us. Cherish the moments or regret u didn't."

Jenifer: "my kids don't need to ever call. they're always welcome to come by even if I'm not home"

yolandamacias941: "this breaks my heart! I will drop what I'm doing to see my babies anytime. they are my life. not everyone's opinion."

We asked our Facebook Family and this is what they had to say.

Prem Moodley: "Not in this age. U have to make it known before u visit incase one has other plans. I thk its also polite"

Vanessa Seerangum: "Hell No! Don't come if you never call me before coming... I will jus sit inside quite while u get tired of knocking and leave"
