Five reasons why intelligent people often live in a mess

Five reasons why intelligent people often live in a mess

"Simply put, they don’t have time for trivial matters like cleaning when they’re trying to solve world hunger or develop a life-saving technology."

It has long been said that highly creative and intelligent people are not good at keeping areas clean and tidy.

But that comes with some conjecture, as not all creatives are like that.

In fact, there is no one set way to describe creatives. Like all personality groups, there is a standard and a variation of characteristics that come with each.

But in support of the claim that intelligent and creative people are messy, we found five reasons that explain their messiness.

It seems cluttered households have some validity. Messy households don't necessarily mean that the owner is lazy.

Quite the opposite actually, as intelligent people are said to have high levels of energy.

So, let's take a look at the five reasons that supports their messiness:

1. Untidy homes are said to encourage new ways of thinking

"A study by researchers from the University of Minnesota found that a messy house could encourage creativity and novelty. They discovered that a cleaner environment does have its perks, such as promoting generosity and healthy eating. However, a disorderly environment makes people more likely to think outside the box." (Power of Positivity)

2. Not adhering to social norms

These types of people generally take issue with following orders or conforming to a societal pattern. Therefore some of these intelligent creatives do not clean their homes often as not to follow the herd.

3. Using their energy for other purposes

Highly intelligent people tend to spend their time on what they deem as most useful and productive. Which generally means reading, researching, and discovery.

"They’re so immersed in their passions that cleaning doesn’t cross their minds very often. That’s why they prefer to clean once a month or when they get around to it." (Power of Positivity)

4. Lost in their own world

Most of the time, highly intelligent people are so focused that they don't notice what is happening around them.

"They’re off in their own world, contemplating our universe’s existence and nature. They get so immersed in these ideas that they hardly pay attention to anything else." (Power of Positivity)

5. Cleaning is not stimulating to them

Their threshold for messiness is much higher, as they feel cleaning can be boring.

"They only clean when necessary but have a higher threshold for messiness than most people. Intelligent people require more mental stimulation than cleaning can provide, so it’s not on the top of their to-do list." (Power of Postivity)
