Durban paddlers set a new Guinness World Record!
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Any record is a win for us proud Durbanites!

There's no doubt that when it comes to celebrating anything about our city, we are big boasters. Ain't nothing wrong with that, if you have something to celebrate, we say go for it.
These Durban paddlers have certainly given us something to celebrate as they set a new Guinness World Record. So this is us staying humble but showing off that we are super proud of them...
For more from East Coast Radio
"Durban paddlers Quinton Rutherford and Brett Hadiaris set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance paddled in a double surf ski in a 24-hour period when they completed a brutal 219km paddle from St Lucia to Durban on Monday." (IOL)
As much as this is an amazing accomplishment, these two have such amazing hearts. They started off this paddle as a fundraiser for young local girl Farren Grace who is suffering from B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
We love their go-getter attitudes and it turns out it was all worth it. "Rutherford had previously set the record for the single ski, and thereafter had planned the double ski record attempt with Hank McGregor, but ocean conditions did not materialise during the early stages of the summer, and with river racing commitments McGregor reluctantly stepped aside." (IOL)
Even illness couldn't stop them from pursuing this record. That is admirable and to hear that they did it for a cause, makes us beam a little brighter with pride.
