As we move into the crux of the digital age, we find that many people have evolved into using their mobile phones as a one stop device. What was once a device that was primarily used for making and receiving calls and texts, has now become an entertainment hub.
An app monitoring firm, App Annie, has found that many people are spending 4.8 hours of their day on their mobile devices. Wait, there's more...

"App Annie's report indicates that apps were downloaded 230 billion times in 2021, while $170bn (£125bn) was spent. TikTok was the most downloaded app worldwide, with users spending 90% more time there compared to 2020." (BBC)
Of course a key part of the rise in using mobile phones as a source of pretty much everything has a lot to do with the pandemic. The restrictions have forced us to find other ways of keeping ourselves entertained.

The big screen is slowly dying as mobile continues to break records in virtually every category - time spent, downloads and revenue.- Chief executive of App Annie, Theodore Krantz.

The amount of time spent on mobile phones has increased by 30% since 2019. App Annie have also noted that they predict that TikTok will have more than 1.5-million active users by the middle of this year.
These numbers stemmed from people in India, Turkey, the US, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Canada, whilst users in Brazil, Indonesia and South Korea surpassed five hours per day. (BBC)

With many people having to work from home, there is this need to be on our smart devices more than we actually need to be. The stress of making sure you haven't missed any communications from your boss, or just following up, so this could also be a contributing factor.
But all in all, we suggest that you check in on your mental state when it comes to being too socially active online. It's okay to take a break from screen time, it's not just good for your mind, but also your body (your eyes for instance need a break from that screen).
