The ‘Rugrats’ are back!

Nickelodeon made a big announcement this week when they revealed that they’re reuniting the original voice cast for a reboot of the popular animated series.

'Rugrats' originally debuted back in 1991 and fast became one of the channel’s most iconic series. Spawning an empire of three theatrical films, nine seasons on TV, four Daytime Emmy Awards, and countless bits of merchandise, including 27 video games, bringing back the franchise was a no-brainer for the channel.

The reboot will, however, come with a few changes. The reboot will be trading in its classic 2D animation for a more well-rounded CG animation.

E.G. Daily (Tommy), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie), Cheryl Chase (Angelica), Cree Summer (Susie), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil), the original voice cast, will be returning for the highly-anticipated reboot, ensuring that the new episodes are as close to the original series as possible.

South Africans, however, will need to wait a little longer to watch the reboot as it will first make it’s debut on the brand-new streaming service Paramount+, which is set to launch in the United States early next week.

“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
