The Selfie Curse has just gotten worse!

Selfie Statues! Would you want them in your town square?
The daily onslaught of selfies is enough, but now a town in Texas has extended this narcissistic attention seeking hell to public art.
Fair enough, it sums up modern life, but art shouldn't just reflect life. Especially a social practice so vapid. I have no issues with people taking selfies, as long as they understand what they are doing, and don't take it too seriously. We know that Social Media Anxiety is real.
One of the biggest contributors to this is the SELFIE. Not the selfie itself, but the reaction to it. We are increasingly defining our self worth and self-esteem by how people respond to our posts. The Selfie is the most dangerous of these, as you are representing yourself with contrived images, allowing yourself to be scrutinized and judged. On nothing other than the way you look! This scrutiny is incredibly superficial, but simultaneously psychologically powerful.
So this town, Sugar Land, Texas (yes is does exist) just put up a statue in its town square that shows two girls taking a selfie! Apparently it was donated to the city as part of a collection of statues that show what people like to do in the town square (image above)
I can feel my soul breaking!
Do you wish Selfies would just go away?
