Wheels to freedom for little Akhona
A child's wish of easy mobility has been granted. Little Akhona has been struggling to move because of her Cerebral Palsy and thanks to a generous heart, she is all smiles.

I had an email from Natasha from the Lanese Ryan Foundation telling me about little Akhona. On a visit to King Edward Hospital, she had met this incredible little girl who has Cerebral Palsy.
Akhona’s dad, a single father, was doing a great job raising her when he met
Anele in 2011, and since then the two have been in a relationship. Anele has taken
on the role of being Akhona’s ‘Mother’.
But life hasn’t been easy for the family.
With no wheelchair, moving Akhona is difficult and the simplest things in life, like sitting in the sun outside and visits to the hospital, are a huge issue.
Akhona has to be carried everywhere. Natasha’s plea was for a wheelchair for Akhona – but not any type of wheelchair, a specifically-designed chair for children suffering from Cerebral Palsy.On the very same day I received the mail from Natasha, I received a mail from Dumisani Khuzwayo telling me he had a wheelchair suitable for a child with Cerebral Palsy that he would like to donate. His daughter, who had been using it, had out grown it.
Isn’t that just incredible?!
And now, little Akhona is able to sit outside in the sun and hospital visits are so much easier.
