Organisations have been faced with the challenge of having to make adjustments to their businesses to safeguard employees and their customers from the coronavirus.

One of the largest cinema chains in the country has had to make adjustments. Ster-Kinekor will be suspending morning and evening screenings until further notice to slow the spread of coronavirus.

“We are proceeding with scheduled programming. However, no shows will screen before 12 pm (midday) or after 6 pm,” the company said. At the same time, Ster-Kinekor is encouraging “social distancing” inside its cinemas by “ensuring that two seats are left empty between each booked seat,” the company said.

To align with the measures put in place by the South African government, Ster-Kinekor will cap the capacity of each show to 100 people. This comes as another knock to the cinema giant as they have also had to adjust to low numbers as consumers shift to home streaming services such as Netflix.

“In light of President Ramaphosa’s announcement and in response to growing concern regarding the spread of coronavirus/Covid-19, Ster-Kinekor’s executive committee has been working to ensure that it remains abreast of all developments relating to the outbreak of coronavirus,” it said.

“Certain hygiene protocol steps have already been taken including the placement of hand sanitisers in cinemas and minimising staff in periods when they are not required."
