Social media divided over SA Rugby's first female referee

Aimee Barrett-Theron has become the first woman in South Africa to form part of the Premier Rugby panel of referees. While some are overjoyed by the news, others aren't so sure about the decision.

According to SA Rugby Mag, Aimee Barrett-Theron has done many proud after she became the first woman to earn a selection to SA Rugby’s Premier Panel of referees. She was promoted to the top tier of match officials recently. Wow!

Aimee recently refereed the opening match of the Women’s World Cup which took place in Ireland, and also the SA Rugby U20 Championship final in Welkom.
Here's the interesting thing - while some people are praising the promotion, others are not so positive, saying that there are certain things that a woman will never be able to do better than a man. Many took to social media to air their views and while some were ecstatic, some didn't hold back.
