According to a Press Release by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), their Python Action Team have been busy at work removing around 900 Burmese pythons from the Big Cypress National Preserve.

However, it was Cynthia Downer and Jonathan Lopez's catch which has left everyone stunned. The pair have removed a 98 pound 10-ounce Burmese python (about 44kg) from the Florida preserve.

"In addition to being the largest snake ever captured by the PAT team, it is also the largest ever captured in Big Cypress. The snake is also the second-largest python ever caught in the wild in Florida, only 4 inches shorter than the longest wild python ever captured in Florida. Capturing large adult females is critical because it prevents them from potentially adding an average of 30 to 60 hatchlings to the population each time they breed," as quoted in their Press Release.

FWC posted a picture of the massive python on their Facebook page and called it a 'record breaker'. They also added that their goal is to protect 'native wildlife by removing pythons from the wild areas' of their state.

Nice work, team!
