Is spear fishing dangerous?

I've never done it so I can't really answer that question, but in my opinion, I think if you're smart, you know your limits and adhere to them, so it's probably as dangerous as any other activity.

The thing I'd be most worried about would be the blood after I've shot the fish. I know that sharks can smell blood in water miles away, so that would surely cause a feeding frenzy?

Shark attacks can happen to anyone, at anytime... and you certainly don't need to be a spear fisherman to have an encounter with a great white.

But this spear fisherman did...

And it's terrifying.
