Let's be honest, there are pros and cons for both. Long engagements seem to be good if you know you want to be with that person forever, but you’re at different places in your life. A long engagement could be beneficial for a couple who are living in different parts of the world or completing studies. Not to mention the benefit of using the time to save up.
Guinness World Records reports that the world's longest engagement was a whopping 67 years between Octavio Guillan and Adriana Martinez. They got married in June 1969.
A shorter engagement may be better for those who have everything in place and you just need to go through the formalities of making it official. It may also help to choose the shorter route for those who are ready to start a family. I mean, if you know you want to be with someone for the rest of your life and everything else is in place, then why wait, right?
