How many cups is 'too much' when it comes to drinking coffee?

Everyone loves a good cup of java, but what is the most one should drink in a day?

If you rely on caffeine to wake you up and keep you going, I'm so with you. Millions of people drink copious amounts of coffee, not only to help to combat fatigue, but also to improve their concentration and focus.

Apparently, the amount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee a day is safe for most healthy adults, but some days, I drink many more than four cups of coffee.

I did some research and I found out that if you drink more than four cups a day, you're susceptible to migraines, irritability, and restlessness. Does it prevent you from sleeping? Does it make your heart palpitate? If not, should we still worry about it because surely different people are affected differently by caffeine?

According to a study by the University of Melbourne, coffee is 'the most commonly used psychoactive drug' and drinking more than five cups a day can leave you hearing things.

I think I've finally worked it out. I think that I should maybe cut back. I keep hearing the voice of my boss telling me that I'm getting an increase, but it must just be the coffee...
