Despite what others may say, break-ups suck and along with parting ways you cry, drunk text, beg them to come back, cut off all contact, change your appearance, and go out partying. But what is the best way to recover from a break-up?

Well, a study has been conducted by the University of Missouri which surveyed 24 people between the ages of 20 to 37 who experienced some form of heartbreak after a long-term relationship.

Scientists used four strategies to coach the respondents on how to move on after the heartbreak.

Strategy 1

Think about all the stuff your ex did which annoyed you to the point of pulling out your hair.

Strategy 2

If you still love your ex, accept those feelings and say “It’s ok to love someone I’m no longer with.” (This one certainly doesn’t work for me).

Strategy 3

Have fun. Go out with friends for dinners and have a ball. Lose yourself in anything that isn't associated with the heartbreak.

Strategy 4

Wait. Wait for time to pass until the wounds heal themselves. It's painful, but it works, so they say.

After the strategies were used, another test was conducted and it was found that respondents felt better after the heartache.
