Does the old South African flag still incite hatred?

Does the old South African flag still incite hatred?

Is the old South African flag just a flag that we should be ignoring, or does it still incite the violence and hatred of the Apartheid regime?

Brian's pub in Sea Point

Three men were arrested outside a bar in Cape Town after the owner of the pub called the police.

They were apparently in the pub throwing shot glasses and ashtrays at the barman because the old South African flag was hanging on the wall in the bar.

But really, should displaying the old South African flag really incite violence?

I mean, yes, the old flag is associated with the Nationalist government's policy of Apartheid, but let's also not forget that it was under this flag that Apartheid was officially demolished, so to ban it would really be denying a part of South Africa's history?

Despite saying that, I think of the enormous atrocities that happened during the Apartheid regime. How can we NOT remember this as a time in our history? One that we need to reflect on regularly, and discuss openly to try to understand every human's plight.

And... we could argue many points here.

Was the owner of the pub foolish to hang up the flag in a public venue in the first place? Surely, we've moved on, is it not the time to really leave the past behind and rather just display our current flag?

Then again, the pub owner could say that it's his pub and if people don't like it, they shouldn't go there?

Here is what you had to say, and I'll be honest - I did not expect this response
