The Department of Home Affairs are making our lives easier!
Updated | By Zaba
Say goodbye to that long queue you had to stand in just to apply for your ID book!
Today, President Jacob Zuma will launch the eChannel Pilot Project of the Department of Home Affairs.
The DHA has decided to make our lives a whole lot easier and has given us alternatives to going to stand in queues just to apply for our IDs and stand in an even longer queue to collect.
The DHA has now collaborated with South Africa’s four major banks (Standard Bank, ABSA, FNB and Nedbank) that will provide space inside the banks for DHA kiosks.
You can come in and submit fingerprints and pictures for your smart ID if you have made an online application and payment.
According to the DHA Twitter account spokesperson, Mayihlome Tshwete, people will now be able to apply for SMART ID cards online.
I love it when departments of government make our lives easier!
Thank you Minister Gigaba for making our lives easier.
Now, please can we pick our best selfies as our ID photos and not our mugshot lookalikes!
Because the project is still in its introductory phase, online applications are only open to South African citizens between 30-35 years old.
Once the glitches (if there are any) have been ironed out, the DHA will open up the platform to all citizens.
