Damon's view on oversharing on social media

Sharing has to be one of the most primary functions on social media. However, there's a fine line between sharing and oversharing, which could be a complete turn-off for your fans.

I think that most people who are actually guilty of oversharing probably don’t even realise they’re doing it.

But we all know ‘those’ people. They may be in your family, in your circle of friends, or they may even be some of your colleagues.

You know, the ones who give you the minute-by-minute updates of their lives. What they’ve had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the endless selfies, the constant updates about their relationship. The picture after picture of the love of their life. Then they break up and all the pictures disappear. Are you the person who goes through their news feed and deletes every pic?

I honestly believe oversharing on social media has become a problem and I think it’s okay if you don’t post every day. People are not going to forget about you. It’s almost as though people are using platforms as an online diary - broadcasting their personal grievances and details of their children’s lives for the entire world to see.

So why do we do it? Is it because we’re bored and feel the need to post to fill up our time or is it just that people think that the world literally revolves around them and what they’re doing? Perhaps it’s because people have low self-esteem and we’re seeking attention and validation?

So there has to be a balance, right? I think it’s okay if you don’t post every day. People are not going to forget about you.

What do you make of people who overshare on social media?
