Coronavirus: Apple CEO Tim Cook asks staff to work from home
Updated | By ECR
Tim Cook showed his staff that he cares when he offered them an opportunity to work from home for the week of 9 to 13 March.
The coronavirus has sent shockwaves throughout the world with more lives being claimed daily. According to the Worldometers, a website giving stats on the outbreak numbers, the world has more than 114,000 confirmed cases.
Companies are now asking their employees to work from home for their safety. Apple CEO Tim Cook is one of the leaders to have joined other companies who have requested employees to work remotely from 9 to 13 March.
These are challenging times for the world. In a memo, Cook said: “Please feel free to work remotely if your job allows.” The change in policy is aimed at “areas with the greatest density of infections,” Cook said.
The work from home rule only applies to Apple offices in South Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, and the UK. In the US, the policy change covers offices in the Santa Clara Valley and Elk Grove areas in California and Seattle. Cook has assured his employees that this will not affect their payment structure.
Other companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have asked their employees to work from home in the wake of the outbreak.
