Caring boss helps pay his staff's lobola costs

"Of all the boss-staff stories I've heard, this has to be one of the sweetest ever!" says Thandolwethu.

Throughout my career, I have had some pretty cool and interesting bosses. Being a boss is not just about how you manage your staff, but I think it has a lot to do with how empathetic you are towards your staff.

I came across a very interesting story on the Daily Sun which piqued my interest. A bus company owner from Ekurhlukeni has admitted to the publication that he helps his staff out by paying their lobola for them.

It is said that he started the practice to encourage them to be faithful to one woman and not mess around. A payment structure is arranged which sees the staff pay the 'loan' back on a monthly basis.

The man has 45 bus drivers and he goes the extra mile to ensure that they are kept happy.

However, it is said that not all staff are happy with the man's assistance method. Some have been demanding increases, which are apparently out of this control due to the amount of work he receives.

I read an interesting quote from American educator Stephen R. Covey which says, "Always treat your employees exactly as you want them to treat your best customers," and this bus company owner has proven just that.

Although it may not be the most conventional thing for a boss to help out with, for some, every bit of help counts.

Good on you, boss man!
