Over the past few years, the private-driver service in South Africa has taken off, and although it was welcomed by many at the time, it has come with its challenges. There have been many riders who have taken to social media to share their stories of assault, unfair treatment, and even harassment.

Although some cab services have a screening process in place, it is sometimes difficult to detect erratic behaviour of drivers.

In a country where many women fear being victimised, one woman has spoken up against her unusual cab ride experience.

News24 recently reported the story of a woman who caught a ride with a private cab driver in Cape Town, and it has been blowing up the internet ever since.

The video started with the driver making remarks about her lips and how nice they looked. He then went on to make lewd comments and even asked the woman to look at him with his pants down and himself exposed. Disgusting!

At first, the shock of the situation set in and she began to giggle in sheer disbelief at what was happening. When she realised that the driver was being serious, the quick-thinking woman texted her best friend, who suggested she take a video, stay calm, and not panic.

After seeing the video, many have spoken of how disappointed they are with the organisation. Since the video's release, the driver has been taken off service.

"The owner of the car called with an “I think you’re lying” undertone until I sent the video and screenshots from the driver Definitely taking this further, my wellbeing was taken for granted," says the woman.

I do not condone any type of victimisation and I applaud the woman for being brave enough to stand up and speak out. Instead of being a victim, she is using her experience to educate riders about their safety when using cabs. As for the driver, I sincerely hope that the platform bans him from operating again.

This is disgusting behaviour!
