Bride ditches gold jewellery and dons tomatoes to make a point

Could this possibly be the latest trend for jewellery in 2019? Hmmm...
Getting married is a costly affair, and there have been many stories published showing women getting creative to save a penny or two for their big day (cue 'Cheapskates' theme song).

One particular bride in India has left the internet baffled with her choice of wedding jewellery. Instead of the usual gold, she decided to go south with her choice.
According to NDTV, a bride from Lahore, Pakistan was seen wearing a gorgeous gold outfit paired with tomatoes used in place of jewellery.

The bride spoke to a local reporter to explain why she did this.
"Gold prices are on the rise. Tomatoes and pine nuts have also become very expensive. That is why I chose to wear tomatoes instead of gold on my wedding," she said.
It is reported that the price of tomatoes shot up to Rs. 300 per kg (about R60 per kg) in the country.
