Are you for or against a no-homework policy?

If implemented, could this policy be the solution to your child having and enjoying their childhood?

There could be a new way of thinking when it comes to homework and it won’t be that there will be less. It could be eradicated altogether (Insert pause here for delighted yells from overjoyed pupils and exhausted parents).

IOL reported that The Sun Valley group of schools based in Cape Town, has adopted a new policy called the Finland Phenomenon which is a system based on trust rather than testing students. 

It is reported that Finland's schooling system is ranked amongst the best in the world alongside South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong which also made the list.

But what is it that makes the Finland Phenomenon so successful? The Guardian reports that the ethos and the policies that they implement is what sets them apart from other systems in the world. 

Unlike South African teachers who have to conform to a curriculum, teachers in Finland are given the opportunity to choose their desired teaching method and detailed teaching plans are not required. 

Could this policy solve the stress that parents have to go through when witnessing their child go through long days at school, attend extra-mural activities and still come home and do homework?

It is reported that the education department could consider this policy but nothing is set in stone as yet. For now - homework or no homework, that is the question.
